profile of Raeann Ruth by Caroline Snyder
May 2000 -- The Dayton's Bluff Beacon, the online newspaper of the
District 4 Community Council, ran a profile of Raeann Ruth, founder
of the Portage for Youth. Like most of Raeann's interviews, the
conversation rapidly turned to the Portage. The article was accompanied
by a great color photo of Raeann and her daughter Amber.

Apr. 9, 2000 -- The Saint Paul Pioneer Press published an article
on the Neighbors page of the Sunday Local section about plans by
Raeann Ruth and the Portage for Youth to renovate the old Mounds
Theater and turn it into an arts and cultural center for Dayton's
Bluff. The story was accompanied by a large photo of Raeann, holding
a drawing she made of the renovated theater, George Hardenbergh,
the current owner of the theater who is donating it to the Portage,
and Norm Tubbesing, a former manager, operator and owner of the

Pride
Apr. 8, 2000 -- KMSP Channel 9 featured a short segment on the Mounds
Theater renovation on their 9 p.m. newscast on Saturday April 8.

Dayton's
Bluff dusting off old theater
Apr. 6, 2000 -- The Star Tribune published an article on the front
page of the Metro/State section about plans by Raeann Ruth and the
Portage for Youth to renovate the old Mounds Theater and turn it
into an arts and cultural center for Dayton's Bluff. There are a
few errors in the article: The area is known as the Mounds Park,
not the Mounds View, business district and the theater closed in
the 1960s, not the 1950s. The story was accompanied by a large color
photo of Raeann and her daughter Amber taken from the balcony and
showing the theater below. There was also a small photo of the theater
as it looked in 1925 and a map showing its location. Read the article.

Program Helps Young Hmong Women Expand Their Horizons
Mar. 15-31, 2000 -- The Asian Pages published an article about the
Portage for Youth and featured its musical program. It describes
the formation of Jagged Innocence and the release of their first
CD-single, "Faith in Someday". The article was accompanied
by a photograph of Jagged Innocence. (See

Sider Raeann Ruth finds her true calling, with her Portage for Youth
Jan. 24, 2000 -- The East Side Review profiled Raeann Ruth as one
of their "Women Leaders of today". The profile includes
an extensive review of Portage programs and the first published
mention of Raeann's plans to renovate the old Mounds Theater. The
article was accompanied by a photograph of Raeann surrounded by
some of this year's Portage girls. (Full

Mar. 1, 1999 -- The East Side Review published a full page, front
page article about the photography program for girls at the Portage
for Youth. The story also describes the "Step into my world"
photo exhibit being held at the Ramsey County Historical Society
in Landmark Center. The article was accompanied by one large photo
of the girls taking photographs and a smaller photo taken by one

Youth
mentoring programs presents girls' photo show
Feb. 28, 1998 -- The Star Tribune featured the Portage for Youth
in the "8 days out" listings in the Entertainment section
of the Sunday edition of the February 28th issue. A black and white
photo of some of the Portage girls was accompanied by a caption
that described the "Step Into My World" photo exhibit
held at Landmark Center from March 1 through April 15, 1998. The
exhibit includes photos shot by the Portage for Youth girls. (See

Overcoming
language barriers: Partnership forms to help Hmong mothers learn
English
Jan. 1999 -- District 1 News, the newspaper of the District 1 Community
Council of St. Paul, published an article about a collaboration
between the Portage for Youth and the Hmong American Partnership
(HAP) to teach English to the mothers of Portage girls. It was accompanied
a black and white photograph and a short summary of the article
written in Hmong. (See

THAT GIRL A CAMERA!
Jan. 12, 1998 -- The East Side Review published a full page, front
page article about the "Just one of the girls" photography
exhibit that included black and white photos shot by 12 young women
from the Portage for Youth. It was held on Jan. 16, 1998 at the
YWCA Atrium. The story also describes the photography mentoring
program at the Portage. It was accompanied by one large photo of
the girls taking photographs and a smaller photo taken by one of

Jan. 11, 1998 -- The Star Tribune printed a large article about
us in the Metro/State section of the Sunday edition of the January
