The
Portage for Youth is an after-school and summer enrichment program
for girls ages 8 to 15 residing in the Dayton's Bluff and Payne
Phalen neighborhoods of Saint Paul. The mission of Portage for Youth
is to “provide the tools, opportunities and support to help
at-risk girls dream, achieve and become healthy, successful adults."
The
Portage for youth provides children and youth with opportunities
to reach there full potential. The Portage’s vision statement
outlines six primary outcomes--
Safety
& Security: Girls in our neighborhood can rely on supervised
environments that offer constructive activity and protection from
abuse and neglect.
Academic
Attitude & Performance: Girls in our neighborhood have
the support, enthusiasm and discipline required to succeed in middle
school, high school and beyond.
Peer
& Adult Social Skills: Girls in our neighborhood have
healthy, safe and comfortable relationships with friends, family
and adults from all cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Life
Skills: Girls in our neighborhood know how to forge successful,
independent lives, regardless of their economic or family background.
Personal
Growth & Creativity: Girls in our neighborhood are
challenged to express themselves through a variety of social, artistic
and athletic activities.
Leadership
& Community Service: Girls in our neighborhood seek
and expand opportunities to contribute to the development of themselves,
others and their community.
